Family-Friendly Ways To Refresh The Garden

There comes a time – usually around the first sunny weekend of the year – when you go outside for the first time in a long time and really take a good look around at your garden. At that point, you might realise that a few things need to be done to refresh the space, especially if winter has taken its toll and the grass is a bit patchy, the patio needs cleaning, the furniture is dirty, and there are still toys and debris scattered all over the place.

If your outdoor space is feeling a bit tired, don’t worry – you don’t have to spend a fortune or completely makeover the entire garden to make it better. You can just make a few small changes and the entire space will feel so much better. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more.

Start With A Good Clear-Out

It might not be all that exciting, but clearing out what you don’t need anymore is often the best way to start when it comes to organising your garden for the new season – old plant pots, broken garden toys, things you meant to fix but didn’t… once they’re all out of the way, you can actually see what you’ve got to work with, so it does make sense to do this first.

Plus, clearing things out is also the perfect excuse to finally tackle all those areas you’ve been ignoring. And if you’ve got kids, they can help with this as well, and you might find a few things you thought were lost, saving you the time and expense of buying new tools and so on.

Add A Splash Of Colour

You don’t need to be an expert in landscaping to brighten up your garden – a few colourful planters, some fun outdoor cushions, or even a freshly painted fence can completely lift the place. And again, it’s something the kids can help with if they’re old enough (at the very least, they’ll be able to choose the colours, even if they don’t get physically involved in the transformation).

Planting flowers and herbs is another great option, especially if you’re aiming for something that’s both pretty and practical, and since they’re quite easy to look after, you’ll feel motivated when you see them growing, and that could mean you decide to take things further.

Take Care Of The Garden Structures

It’s easy to overlook the garden furniture, fences, and storage, but a quick clean, a coat of paint, and some basic repairs can make a big difference, and if your garden has any older elements like playhouses, genches, pergolas, and so on, it’s really worth giving them some attention to make sure they look good.

This could be the ideal time to look into sheds as well. They’re ideal for storing away all the things that need a bit of extra care, like tools and toys, or even furniture over the winter months, and if you’re having a clear-out and tidy up, having a shed as a place to put everything makes a lot of sense.
