Posting here as a last resort. I’m looking for a rare magazine I used to buy when younger. This would be around 1991-1993 in the uk
It’s not one of the popular ones. Not smash hits, BIG, mizz, look again, just 17, teen beat, bop, tv hits, mizz, more, my guy etc. nor is it American. It’s not a typical girly mag either.
It’s so rare I can’t find anything on the internet about it or what it’s called. If it wasn’t for one thing from that magazine I’d be sure I’d imagined the thing.
Anyway I came across it one day around 1991-1993 whilst Looking in a local newsagents in Manchester. It cost about £2/£3 I think. And I only ever remember buying about 5/6 issues
It was monthly. For some reason I got the name X-mag or X-press mag in my head but cannot find anything in reference to those so could be totally wrong. It was aimed at teenagers and im Sure there was some catchline on it saying “magazine for teens (or kids) written by (teens or kids)
It wasn’t your typical teen magazine, was aimed at both boys and girls. It wasn’t full of pop stars or tv celebs either, tho it did have some celeb articles. It seemed to feature many teenage issues and real stories such as drugs, homeless, relationships etc. there were articles, poems, joke pages sent in by teens too (myself included) and at the very back were lots of pages with penpal ads, I sent several in myself and still in touch with the odd few (Hence how I know I didn’t imagine this bloody magazine) I also think there was a problem Page/agony aunt. Articles on tech, current world issues and lots of other things, for a monthly magazine it was quite big.
The pages were not glossy like a typical teen mag.it was more like a thick newspaper but in magazine style, so paper pages. I think sometimes it came with something free? Tho I can’t remember what, I remember an odd issue being wrapped in plastic maybe.
I believe the idea for this magazine was a man (father of kids) fed up with the usual teen mags, therefore a family publication. When I sent in my penpal ads and articles, I had to post them In. I may be getting confused here but have a morecambe address in my mind, could be wrong on that tho
I’ve searched the internet, old magazine archives, google, eBay, other magazine sites, tried all sorts of searches. Can’t find a thing. Do you remember yhis magazine and its name? Or better still
Do you still have a copy or even a photos of it. It’s doing my head in. It must exist somewhere.
