How To Prepare Your Summerhouse To Make It Cozy And Comfortable At All Times

Having a summerhouse in your garden is a little pleasure in life. You get to enjoy the garden as another room, with somewhere enclosed, comfortable, and cozy to spend your time. No matter the weather (or the temperature), you can be out in the garden with no worries!

But you need to set up your summerhouse to be this cozy and comfortable first! And if you’ve never had a garden room before, that can be something tricky to get on with. Which is why we’re here to give you the first few jobs to get out of the way.

If you want your summerhouse to be the kind of place you can truly relax, get these things done before you really start to decorate!

Seal and Insulate First

A bit of insulation really will not go amiss here! Summerhouses don’t tend to come with this pre installed either, and you don’t want to have a freezing box or an overheated oven to use come winter and summer.

You can easily knock in a few insulation boards for this, and some people have even had success with using bubble wrap on both summerhouses and greenhouses

Make sure you also go round the edges, inside and out, to see if there are any holes or gaps in the construction as well. If you spot one, get your caulking gun out and seal it up.

Fit Weatherproof Lighting

If you’re going to be spending evenings and later in the summerhouse, you’re going to want to rig up some electricity. It’s a pain (and a bit expensive) to constantly have to change the batteries in portable lights, so it’s better to have a proper plugged in system to make use of.

But seeing as we’re out in the garden here, the lighting you use needs to be resistant to rain and humidity!

Something like a non corrosive bulb would be a good fit, as they’re also energy efficient as well and you don’t want to be spending too much money trying to light another ‘room in the house’.

Sturdy Seating You Can Layer with Soft Furnishings

Sturdy seating is less likely to allow damp to set in, grow mold, or start to rot over time. It also helps fit the aesthetic of a wooden summerhouse too!

You can purchase sturdy hardwood seating already made up, or you can try your hand at putting your own seating bench together, whether it comes with a back or not. No matter what you go with, fit it into your summerhouse as is and then layer it up from there.

Use cushions, blankets, throws, and plenty of soft and fluffy accompaniments (and even stuffed toys) to get the plushness you’re looking for. And if anything gets damaged or damp, it’s much easier to replace the soft top bits than having to buy a whole new seat!

Preparing a summerhouse for all year use isn’t that hard! Just make sure you insulate, seal, and illuminate.
