3 Tips For Making Your Nail Polish Last Longer When You’re A Busy Mom

If you like having your nails painted but don’t like how easily your nail polish will chip off as you go about doing your parental and household duties, you’ll be glad to know that there are things that you can do to help lengthen the amount of time that your nail polish will stay on and looking great.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three tips for making your nail polish last longer when you’re a busy mom.

Remove Oil From Your Nails

One of the biggest reasons, aside from working hard with your hands all throughout the day, that your nail polish might have a hard time staying on and will chip off easier is if you have oily nail beds.

When the bed of your nail, or the place where you’re putting your polish, is oily, the polish won’t adhere as well and will more easily chip or flake off. Knowing this, you’ll want to make sure that you take steps to remove the oil from your nails before you paint them. This can be done by making sure your nails are clean and dry before you apply any polish. Additionally, applying a base coat on top of dry, clean nails can help the polish to apply better and stay on longer.

Apply Thinner Coats Of The Polish

While you might think that applying a thick coat of nail polish would make it hard for the nail polish to chip or pull off, the opposite is actually true. When you apply thick coats of nail polish, it can take a long time for that polish to dry. And then, if any part of it gets chipped, the entire coat can easily peel off.

On the other hand, if you apply thinner coats of paint and allow for them to dry before applying the next coat, you’re building up layers of protection against chipping.

Moisturize Your Cuticles

When your hands and nails get dry, it becomes especially easy for nail polish to want to chip off.

With this in mind, you’ll want to make sure that both your hands and your cuticles are effectively moisturized in order to keep your nail polish on for as long as possible. While you can use normal hand lotion, what’s going to be even better is to use a cuticle cream or oil to help keep things really smooth and moisturized. These products are sold everywhere and easy to find, so if you don’t already have one, consider adding a cuticle product to your nail accessories.

If you want the time you spend giving yourself a manicure as a busy mom to be well worth it, consider using the tips mentioned above to help your nail polish last longer.
