How To Use Your Garden All Year Round

Spending time outside has a good impact on our health and wellbeing. When the weather gets colder, it’s hard to find the motivation to get outside. However, with some thought and preparation, you can turn your garden into somewhere you want to be all year round.

Early Autumn

Autumn can be a great time to be outside. However, more rain and less sun can mean that any grass areas can become water logged and could turn into a muddy mess.

It’s a good idea to make a path by laying some paving stones or having a resin bonded gravel walkway laid. This makes walking from the house to visit the shed or to hang out the washing much cleaner and easier.

Invest in some all-weather rattan garden furniture so you don’t have to put it away and get it out every time you want to use it. With weatherproof furniture waiting for you, you’ll be more likely to decide to make the most of any warmer days and sit in the garden.

Late Autumn

With winter getting nearer, you might not be able to rely on the sun to provide the warmth you want. Instead, invest in a chiminea or a fire pit and build a log fire warmth instead. Sturdy umbrellas can be used to keep the rain off too.

The heat and ambience from the fire can cheer even a gloomy evening. Get out the barbecue to cook outside too.

Winter

Even on the coldest of days, you can enjoy a hot tub outside.

As long as you have a flat, concrete foundation and access to a power supply outside, you can put a hot tub, jacuzzi, or bubble tub just about anywhere in the garden that you want. With the availability of more affordable inflatable models on the market, buying a hot tub has become quite achievable.

Thanks!!

For the best private, peaceful experience, make sure you set up your tub in a secluded corner of your outside space or add in some well-placed fencing, trellis, or tall plants to shield from the eyes of the neighbours and passers-by.

Adding some outdoor lighting around the tub will help to create a relaxing mood, show off some of your favourite features of the garden, and give you a lit route from the house to the tub.

If you don’t fancy a soak, there are other cosy ways to enjoy the garden in winter that don’t involve getting wet.

For example, a glass-fronted garden building that faces the sun will help you to take advantage of any warmth there is in the winter sun that manages to get through. If there’s no sun at all, then you can install a small heater, or curl up in a comfy chair with a hot water bottle, to get out and enjoy your garden retreat without getting cold.

Your garden can be a relaxing space to enjoy all year round, with some small changes and taking advantage of whatever sun there is.
