5 Ways to Get Your Home Autumn-Ready

Summers seem to last a little longer now, so it’s understandable if you’re yet to prep for the new season.

But it’s that time of year again, the pumpkins are out, and bonfires are on the horizon. Christmas might officially be ‘the most wonderful time of year’ but it’s never too soon to get those chestnuts roasting on an open fire.

Autumn is finally here, so take some time now to make sure that your home is ready for autumn with these five tips.

1) Block The Drafts

Drafts are unpleasant when the temperature starts to drop, and if you have an old home, they can be a real problem.

The most common entry points for these dastardly breezes of chilly winter air are through your windows and doors. To combat this, invest in an adorable draft excluder from a site like Etsy, and trade out your flimsy summer curtains for a thick velvet. With these simple additions you’ll be sure to keep the cold at bay.

2) Render Your Walls

The elements can really ruin our exterior walls, and aside from leaving them looking tattered and worn, wall damage makes our heating less efficient.

Rendering your home is an easy but effective way to weatherproof your home, and when you consult with the experts at Direct Building Products, you’ll know that you’ve chosen the right render to suit your needs.

3) Clean Your Fireplace

What’s better than curling up in front of the fire with a glass of wine on a chilly autumn evening?

Before you light it again for the first time this year, make sure you give it a good scrub. Get rid of any ashes and soot – child labour laws mean that we can no longer send our little ones up the chimney – but if you have a vacuum to hand then you’ll have the job done in no time.

4) Theme Your Colours

Autumn is all about the reds, browns and oranges!

And though you’re not likely to renovate the house from head to toe to keep up with seasonal trends, it’s easy to introduce a dash of new colour into your home.

Instead stock up on cosy pillows and throws in those autumnal shades, that way you can achieve that autumn theme with minimal effort.

Alternatively, you can change your wall art, autumn park scenes are always nice to look at!

5) Find Your Fragrance

Finding an autumn fragrance is a great way to make your interior fit with the season outside.

While there’s certainly nothing wrong with air freshers, scented candles suit the time of year much better.

Shop around for that perfect autumn scent, something like apple and cinnamon or pumpkin spice are ideal for this time of year! They evoke an inviting feeling and having lit candlesaround does wonders for tricking our brains into thinking that we’re warmer than we really are!
