Dressing for the Occasion

Fashion can sometimes be difficult to wrap your head around. Unless you read Vogue and Elle every month it can be difficult to keep up with modern trends as well as the dos and don’ts of style. Today we want to share some helpful tips for dressing up for different occasions.

A Cocktail Party

A cocktail party is an affair that often takes place in a swanky location and that’s why the obvious choice for this is a cocktail dress. The main decision you have to make here is what kind of dress you want to wear based on the season, your body shape, and who is in attendance. For affairs that are with all of your friends you might not need to wear something as formal as you would if you were with strangers. There are always lots of party dresses in store so decide whether to go full glitter or a simple form fitting style.

A Dinner Party

A dinner party is an occasion that may have a few different situations. If you are with friends or family, you may be able to wear something pretty casual like a comfy dress or jeans and a top. If you are with a few friends as well as some people you don’t know, you may want to wear something a little more dressed up like a simple jersey dress and heels. If the dinner party is with people you don’t know, you may want to dress it up even more. When dressing for a dinner party, make sure it is comfortable and also that you have enough room in your clothes for food!

A Business Occasion

When dressing for an occasion such as a business party, there are some real rules you need to follow. It is important to make the distinction between a work affair and a night out, meaning super short cut dresses are not the way to go. Ideally, stick to midi or maxi style and choose a dress that has sleek lines and a modest neckline. Avoid crazy colours such as pink and yellow as these can seem unprofessional and instead choose black, white, dark hues, or muted shades.

A Job Interview

Although a lot of companies opt for a casual dress code these days, it is never a good idea to go casual to an interview. The traditional interview attire is a black and white suit or shirt and skirt, but there are some small changes you can make here to show some personality and stand out from other candidates. Don’t be afraid to wear a coloured blouse or a coloured skirt to an interview. This serves to catch the eye of the interviewer and may work in your favour. Be sure to keep it smart and simple, but ensure you show who you are.

A Funeral or a Wake

A funeral is the most difficult occasion you’ll ever have to go to, and deciding on an outfit may not be high on your list of priorities. For a funeral it is important to wear black to signify mourning unless the family states otherwise. When choosing an outfit, you must make sure it is conservative, formal, and simple. Don’t add lots of frills and accessories to a sombre event because it just won’t fit.
