10 Children’s Products Recalled for Safety Concerns

So far in 2019, there have been dozens of children’s products recalled due to safety concerns. Defective products can cause all sorts of injuries in children. Products that cause suffocation can lead to brain damage, which can cause developmental and cognitive delays, or even death. Products that overheat or are flammable can cause burn injuries. And of course, food products that are contaminated can cause illness.

What is concerning is that all of these health and safety risks have been included in the list of ongoing children’s product recalls for 2019.

10 Children’s Products Recalled in 2019

Here is a list of the 10 defective products that are most concerning for officials and parents.

Baby Rattle Socks

After a report from the U.S. Product and Safety Commission (CPSC), manufacturer Midwest-CBK recalled over 20,000 pairs of baby rattle socks marketed in the United States and Canada. The socks were recalled due to concern that the decorative rattle attached to the toe of the socks could become dislocated, causing a choking hazard for infants and young children.

Bullseye’s Playground Wooden Toy Vehicles

In April 2019, Target recalled more than 500,000 Bullseye’s Playground wooden toys. The toy recall followed several consumer complaints about the wheels on the toys detaching, which posed a choking hazard for small children.

Cat & Jack Unicorn “Chiara” Boots

Popular Target brand “Cat & jack” issued a recall of 33,000 pairs of Unicorn “Chiara” boots after numerous complaints were made that the unicorn horn detaches. Consumers complained that the product, marketed to young children, posed a choking hazard.

DG Naturals Baby Cought Syrup + Mucus

Dollar General announced a recall in March 2019 of several lots of their children’s Naturals Baby Cough Syrup + Mucus product. Several lots were found to contain Bacillus circulans and Bacillus cereus – two bacteria that can cause severe diarrhea and vomiting in children.

Eddie Bauer First Adventure Infant Carrier

Known for its rugged exterior and functionality, Eddie Bauer has recalled more than 22,000 First Adventure baby carriers. The recall followed several reports that the buckles on the front of the carrier broke, causing the infant to fall out.

Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleepers

One of the most controversial recalls of 2019 is that of the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play sleeper. The popular product has been identified in at least 32 infant deaths. The infants suffocated while using the product. With more than four million products sold since 2009, Fisher-Price came under fire when Consumer Reports found that the company had not been transparent about the known risks of suffocation.

Go Couture Children’s Loungewear

Go Couture recalled children’s sleepwear sets in April 2019 after it was determined that the products did not pass flammability standards. The products were marketed for children 12-months to 12-years old. Made out of polyester, rayon, and spandex, the products posed a risk of burn injuries.

Hot Mom Portable Bed Rails

Popular Amazon seller “Hot Mom” sold portable bed safety rails through an online store until safety concerns led to a recall in January 2019. The products were recalled after they failed to meet safety standards. The rails posed a risk of entrapment or suffocation for infants or young children.

Infant Ibuprofen

Liquid ibuprofen designed for infants was recalled in January 2019 after several batches were found to have higher-than-anticipated levels of the active ingredient. The product was sold under store brand labels at Family Dollar, CVS Pharmacy, and Wal-Mart. Infants who ingest more than the recommended dose of ibuprofen can experience nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, or in extreme cases kidney damage.

Power Wheels Barbie Dream Campers

In February 2019 Fisher-Price voluntarily recalled over 40,000 Barbie Dream Camper toys. The child-size camper allows small children to sit in the vehicle and drive it. The campers were recalled after multiple complaints that the toy continued to run and drive, even after the pedal had been released.

Why Parents Should Pay Attention to Recalls

Parents should never take their children’s safety for granted. Products are only recalled after a manufacturer or regulating agency determines there is a safety risk. Parents should pay attention to safety alerts or recalls of children’s products in order to keep their families safe. Recalled children’s products can be extremely dangerous, or even life-threatening. By being aware and taking action, parents can reduce the risk of injury to their children.
